What is the Comcast SD-WAN Product?

The Comcast SD-WAN offering, from Comcast Business, pulls heavily on the cable providers’ gigabit-speed broadband and fiber-based connections. These two connections are software-controlled links between enterprise locations in the SD-WAN.

The broadband uses the Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) 3.1, which can reach download speeds of up to 10 Gb/s. However, Comcast only claims speeds of up to 1 Gb/s. Major elements of the Comcast Business SD-WAN are application-aware routing, secure VPNs, stateful firewalls, automation through policies, central management, use of virtual network functions (VNFs), and using its ActiveCore SDN platform as a foundation.
